The application window is now open for the training course, 'Satellite-based tools for investigating aquatic ecosystems', from the Trevor Platt Science Foundation (TPSF).

The Trevor Platt Science Foundation was launched in 2021 in memory of Professor Trevor Platt FRS. For those of you who didn’t know our late colleague and friend Trevor, he was a British and Canadian biological oceanographer who was distinguished for his fundamental contributions to many aspects of oceanography and in recent years, to limnology as well. He was committed to the stewardship of the ocean and his research interests were broad. Trevor also had a passion for the development of early career researchers and for capacity building.

The Foundation is clear in its mission: “to uphold the legacy of Prof. Trevor Platt by striving for the betterment of our environment and our society and by equipping young scientists to take up leadership roles for stewardship of our planet.”

And to that end, the Trevor Platt Science Foundation is now providing a training course, preceding Trevor Platt Science Foundation Symposium, which is to be held at Plymouth Marine Laboratory from the 9th - 11th August 2023.

The training course will centre on a subset of the themes of the Symposium, such as remote sensing of ocean colour, water quality and human health, primary production, physiology and ecology of marine phytoplankton and practical aspects of working with satellite data.

It will have online and in-person components, and it is open to any early career scientists, technicians, students (BSc, MSc and PhD) and post-doctoral scholars involved in aquatic ecosystems research.

Limited travel support will be available to assist trainees from both developing countries, as well as Europe. All participants requiring travel support must submit an abstract to the TPSF Symposium as first-author.

The deadline to register for the training course and to submit an abstract for the Symposium is 30th January 2023.
