Plymouth Marine Laboratory Achieves Silver Investors in Diversity Accreditation
09 July 2024
Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the respected Silver Investors in Diversity (IiD) accreditation.
Investors in Diversity is a national equality standard that helps organisations “improve their diversity and inclusion practices in the workplace”. The silver accreditation invites feedback from people working in individual organisations, in order to understand how they are experiencing their organisation’s culture and values.
“We are delighted to have achieved the silver Investors in Diversity accreditation,” said PML’s Chief Executive Professor Icarus Allen. “It is testament to the culture of fairness and inclusivity that we continue to promote at PML. The process itself has also given us a number of key learnings to build on”.
The decision to pursue the Investors in Diversity accreditation was driven by a desire to establish a structured framework for continuous improvement. The accreditation process included an internal diagnostic survey, gathering valuable insights from staff members. The positive responses highlighted PML’s strong commitment to fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement.
Dr. Siraz Natha, Investors in Diversity Assessor, commended PML’s efforts:
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Plymouth Marine Laboratory on its successful accreditation against Investors in Diversity (IiD). Considerable work has been undertaken to advance fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusivity, and engagement. The internal (staff) diagnostic survey responses were good, with responses comparable to other organisations who have undertaken the same survey and achieved the IiD award. Going forward, PML should continue to build on the foundations it has established. There is a recognition within PML that the journey to improve is ongoing, and there is a willingness amongst PML to implement recommendations, learn and do more at all levels of the organisation”.
The Investors in Diversity accreditation has been administered by the National Centre for Diversity since 2005. The Centre has “collaborated with over 1000 organisations across various sectors, developing a framework that fosters inclusive cultures and drives organisational success”.
