"I am completely fascinated by the tiniest parts of our marine environment. It is so exciting to have the opportunity to learn absolutely everything I can about phytoplankton, from such an amazing team of experts. The possibilities at PML are endless, it makes me feel very grateful that every day I get the chance to work with and chat to some amazing people that are contributing to expanding our marine knowledge. Bryony is a Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology graduate from the University of Plymouth with a passion for all things fishy. During her placement year she specialised in bioacoustics, working with Plymouth University, IBM and Promare to train the AI software onboard the Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS400) to “listen’ for marine noise during the Atlantic crossing.
Bryony worked as a secondary school lab technician to gain some experience for 2 years and is now in the very exciting role of phytoplankton apprentice. This new role sees Bryony joining the incredible L4 plankton time series team and being trained in all areas; from phytoplankton sampling out on Plymouth Quest, to analysing samples, data dissemination and training with some exciting new technology.
