PML x NOC Virtual Work Experience Week

Big news! For the first time, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) are teaming up with Creative Tuition Collective to offer a Virtual Work Experience Week – and applications are now open!

Interested in ocean science work experience?

This free, inspiring week-long programme is open to all UK-based young people, with a strong encouragement for applications from diverse backgrounds, including ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+, individuals with disabilities, and those from lower-income households. Our mission is to create an inclusive program where everyone feels they belong.

Dates: 11–15 August 2025

Times: 9/10am – 4/4:30pm daily

Location: Online via Zoom

Eligibility: UK residents aged 15–19 (whether in school, college, or not currently studying)

What will you do?

  • Learn from scientists working on real ocean challenges – from climate change and coral reefs to cutting-edge marine tech and ocean health monitoring.
  • Meet marine researchers from both PML and NOC, and hear how their unique, sometimes unconventional, career journeys brought them into ocean science.
  • Network with scientists, ask questions, and meet like-minded students.
  • Take part in an exciting design sprint where you’ll collaborate on solutions to real-world marine and social challenges.
  • Build skills in communication, presentation, teamwork, and career planning – including using LinkedIn effectively.
