Former PML Chief Executive awarded Honorary Doctorate

PML’s previous Chief Executive, Professor Stephen de Mora, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Plymouth last week.
Professor de Mora, who was the Chief Executive at PML and PML Applications Ltd. for over a decade before his recent retirement, has worked in diverse environments, disciplines and cultures throughout his career, and is currently an independent consultant and Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter.
During his time at PML, Professor de Mora oversaw the building of the Lady Isobel Laing Marine Matters Centre, a £5.4m refurbishment of the laboratory and the establishment of PML’s OceansGate facility, and the transformation of PML Applications into a successful business.
This recognition from the University of Plymouth adds to a long list of achievements including his work as Chair of the International Scientific Advisory Committee for the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network in Canada and Chair of the Governing Board of the National Centre for Ocean Forecasting.
Professor de Mora is also a Fellow of three Royal Societies and has led or been a member of editorial boards, including the International Journal of Ocean and Oceanography, and the University of Cambridge’s Environmental Chemistry Series.
