Sam Fawcett is the Manager of the PML Applications’ Centre for Coastal Technologies and Commercial Head of Smart Sound. He is an expert in marine licensing, a trained molecular biologist and applied scientist. With experience providing support and specialist consultation across a diverse range of sectors, from defence to ocean carbon dioxide removal.

 

His wealth of experience involves engaging with various key stakeholders and ensuring projects are delivered in a timely manner to a high standard. Sam’s recent work in leading the PML Applications team for the first trial of ocean alkalinity enhancement has been published in Nature Communications – Earth and Environment, providing insight into the viability of ocean alkalinity enhancement as a method for global carbon dioxide removal.

 

Previously, Sam was an Applied Research Assistant and ROV pilot for the FiFish V6 ROV, with experience in test rig monitoring and marine surveys. He was responsible for the environmental data collection at the PML Applications test sites and is involved in desk, lab and field-based project delivery. Sam obtained his MRes in Marine Biology from the University of Plymouth and specialises in molecular work, which he applied in the continual development of test methods for the PML Applications’ Ballast Water Centre, prior to its sale.
