Dr Tristan Biggs is an Applied Research Scientist for PML Applications’ Centre for Environmental Solutions. He works on a range of projects, including surveys (biological, water quality etc), antifoul coatings testing, biofilm analysis, ecotoxicology, microplastics, and environmental DNA.

Tristan’s diverse academic background and interdisciplinary experience in commercial work provide the basis for his skills in field and laboratory work and help him to combine scientific innovation with practical environmental solutions, leading him to deliver impactful research and consultancy services to industry and government partners.

His previous experience in commercial work for the marine sector stems from his roles as a Logging Geologist (Halliburton Sperry Drilling Services) and Biofouling and Ballast Water Research Technician (PML Applications). Tristan’s academic experience from his PhD and postdoctoral research positions, investigating carbon cycling through marine Antarctic food webs, refined his skills in molecular biology, microbial ecology (zooplankton – algae – virus interactions) and lipidomics, with results published in peer-reviewed international journals.
