Head of Group for Marine Processes and Observations

Full time, Open-ended appointment

Salary: (Principal Scientist) £60,603 – £70,263 per annum DOE

The Plymouth Marine Laboratory are offering an exceptional opportunity to lead a passionate and skilled team of experts advancing cutting-edge marine research, with a strong focus on biogeochemistry and Earth Observation.

As a key member of PML’s Science, Technology and Impact team, you will shape the strategic direction of your research area while working closely with the Ocean Challenge Leads to address the triple threats facing our oceans: biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change.

We are seeking an outstanding individual who can demonstrate:

  • An international reputation in marine biogeochemistry and/or marine Earth Observation, with a strong record of leadership;
  • A collaborative approach to developing and delivering PML’s science strategy;
  • Proven success in securing competitive research funding and delivering high-quality project outcomes;
  • The ability to inspire and motivate colleagues through authentic and effective leadership;
  • A clear vision for ensuring that PML has the right expertise and resources to deliver its strategy;
  • Strong skills in building effective relationships both within PML and with external partners;
  • A commitment to personal development, with experience mentoring and supporting colleagues in their career progression;
  • A dedication to promoting PML’s values and leading by example.

Visiting researchers

We welcome interest from visiting researchers who have secured funding to work in the UK, or who have won fellowships, such as a Marie Curie Fellowship, and are looking for a well equipped and vibrant scientific laboratory in which to pursue their research.

If you are interested in joining us to undertake your Marie Curie Fellowship or as a Visiting Researcher, please contact us. We also accept enquiries from those who have not yet secured funding but would like to discuss research opportunities or voluntary placements.
