The 6th International Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO₂ World
Bringing together global experts to advance understanding of ocean change under rising CO₂ levels and help shape future ocean science solutions.
Date
13 October 2026 – 16 October 2026
Location
Tākina Convention & Exhibition Centre, Wellington, New Zealand
Professor Helen Findlay will deliver a keynote address at the 6th International Symposium on The Ocean in a High CO₂ World ‘Moving from Understanding to Action using Multiple Knowledge Systems‘.
The event focuses on ocean climate impacts including ocean acidification, warming and deoxygenation, particularly in a multiple-drive context. Research on marine carbon dioxide removal interventions, which are suggested to mitigate climate change and ocean acidification, will also be a key part of the conference.
The Symposium themes are:
- Beyond tipping points – translating science to action
- Global-driven changes in biodiversity and ecosystem resilience
- Multiple stressors’ effects on marine organisms
- Ocean-based solutions
- Technological advances in marine climate change research
- The modulating role of time – from short-term variability to evolution
- Working across knowledge systems in a high-CO₂ world
