The National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) are delighted to share that their Annual Report 2020 is now available to view and download via their website.

NBIC Annual Report 2020

This report covers key achievements to date, future plans for training, case studies, international strategy and all of the Proof of Concept (POC) projects that NBIC are funding.

The Innovation Knowledge Centre funded by the BBSRC, Innovate UK and the Hartree Centre, is the UK’s hub for accessing biofilm expertise, capability, science and innovation, and connects biofilm specialists across the UK, providing a mechanism for industrial partners to explore their unmet needs with researchers to achieve breakthrough innovation. The centre also supports the development of technologies to prevent, detect, manage and engineer biofilms through translational POC funding.

Dr Mark Richardson, NBIC CEO, said: “NBIC is still a relatively young organisation but I am proud that we have achieved so much since our formation in late 2017. We were formed to support and connect the biofilm community across industry and academia in the UK. In the challenging circumstances we currently face globally, it’s clear that never has the importance of innovation and science been so critical.”

Dr Thomas Vance, Manager of the Centre for Marine Biofouling and Corrosion at PML Applications Ltd, commented: “It is great to see that NBIC has achieved so much progress in such a short time. Their pragmatic and efficient approach to R&D funding is very refreshing. PML and PML Applications Ltd are pleased to continue their partnership with NBIC and are looking forward to more collaboration in the future.”

NBIC recently announced the launch of their biofilm awareness campaign, #BiofilmAware, which works to raise awareness of NBIC and its research, and the many societal and economic impacts of biofilms. More information and campaign resources are available on the NBIC website via the #BiofilmAware campaign hub.

If you’re interested in supporting the #BiofilmAware campaign, or if you’re an academic in a research institution or a commercial organisation with a desire to join NBIC’s mission to achieve breakthroughs in biofilm innovation, please contact NBIC at nbic@biofilms.ac.uk.
