PML welcomes new Honorary Fellow Lowri Mai Griffiths MBE 

Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is delighted to announce that Lowri Mai Griffiths MBE has accepted an invitation to become a PML Honorary Fellow, working with PML’s Office for International Affairs. 

Lowri’s fellowship brings with it considerable high-level, international expertise in ocean policy and governance, which will help support PML’s strategic goals. 

As former Head of the UK’s Ocean Policy Unit at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Lowri led UK engagement in key multilateral fora, including the BBNJ negotiations, the International Seabed Authority and UN ocean negotiations and meetings. As an FCDO lawyer, she was part of the UK’s delegation to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) and the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) and supported maritime boundary delimitation and marine protection initiatives across the UK Overseas Territories.

I look forward to working with the Office for International Affairs to advance PML’s mission and support the delivery of solutions to the critical issues facing the ocean today.”

Lowri’s career has centred on strengthening the science–policy interface and ensuring that robust evidence informs international decision making and she has collaborated widely with scientific institutions, NGOs and intergovernmental organisations to advance nature positive outcomes and support sustainable ocean management. 

Now an independent consultant, she advises governments, international organisations and civil society on ocean governance, treaty implementation and multilateral strategy. Her work aligns closely with PML’s mission to deliver world leading marine science for global sustainability.
